How to start a consultant business?
Just sign up in a third-party service online. For example, Elance.com, Zintro.com, Clarity.fm, Maven.co, and follow their leads. Or, just make a shining yet sincere profile in LinkedIn.com, telling what you are capable of and collects some recommendations from previous clients, colleagues or bosses.
Create a web too. Post regularly with relevant content. Make an expert page, which strongly says you are tremendous at doing X, Y, Z, shows your portfolio, your offers, your rates, and your contact. To give you an example, I made such page here.
Don’t forget to give some freebies to your visitors some time, I mean freebies connected to your business. That would be nice and potentially improve your authority in the eyes of your readers.
Afterward, you can advertise your consulting business to media. Let’s start with the cheap one: local newspapers or bulletins. Because you have a representative blog or website, put your URL next to your address, phone number and email in that ad.
By the time people begins to see you, you may stop your paid campaign. But, trust me, there will be a moment when you have to start to promote again. Being a consultant under your own company won’t feed you with a predicted income. If you prefer a fixed job, then you should apply to other’s company as a consultant employee.
